A dog can bring so much happiness to our lives that sometimes it is incredible how some people can be so cruel to these helpless creatures. Despite everything-neglect, abuse and abandonment of dogs still happen every day.

People from the Animal Sanctuary – an animal shelter in New York, witness this every day, but nothing could have prepared them for what they were going to see.

Two girls found an abandoned dog under the Manhattan Bridge and immediately transported it to their premises. When the staff saw the dog with their own eyes, they were in shock.

He was so emaciated and generally in such poor condition that they were not sure if he would survive. However, they were determined to do everything to make sure that this poor dog met his happy ending.

Difficult recovery

Before bringing him to the animal shelter in New York, these two cute girls wrapped the dog in warm blankets. With this, they showed that there are still people who have really big hearts and are always ready to help those who need it most.

However, they could not do more, so he was taken care of by the staff and volunteers of the animal sanctuary. Fortunately, he was really in good hands.

“So we brought him inside,”Nicole Chan, director of marketing and communications with Animal Haven, told The Dodo. “We put him first on the floor. And we just took a look at it and you can tell that everyone was very sad.”

Although it was literally skin and bones, Timmy, as this dog was called, began to wander a little. The people at the rescue center were very surprised, but they also knew that this was the best sign that Timmy would not give up so easily.

Yet, they rushed him to the emergency vet, where the doctors confirmed what they already knew – Timmy was in a terrible state.

Apart from emaciation, “the veterinarians determined that some of the numerous wounds on his skin strongly indicated mistreatment – consistent with cigarette burns.”

Animal Haven wrote in his Facebook post:” on top of everything, Timmy was also diagnosed with pneumonia.”.

Looking at his condition, the veterinarians immediately informed the shelter staff that Timmy would have to stay in the hospital for a long time.

However, although his future was uncertain, Timmy slowly but surely recovered. On this path, he received help from amazing veterinarians, employees of the shelter who visited him daily, as well as kind people who donated funds for his treatment.

Thanks to all these kind souls, the happiest days were finally on the horizon for this dog.

A new beginning

Timmy spent 36 days in the hospital before he was ready to be discharged. Although there is still a long way to a full recovery ahead of him, he has taken a decisive first step.

After being discharged from the hospital, Timmy returned to the shelter where the staff welcomed him with open arms. However, he did not stay there for long.

According to Animal Haven’s Facebook post, they received many offers to promote Timmy, so they easily managed to find him an ideal temporary home…

“Alison came out of the woods,”Nicole said. “We were just like,” we hope this is foster fail”!”

Although they didn’t know what would happen at the beginning, everything pointed to the happiest ending. In a very short time, Alison and Timmy got strongly connected and became inseparable.

“Immediately, he won’t leave my side,”Alison said. “Anytime I sat on the couch, he would jump on the couch and be right next to me.”

Faster than expected, Timmy’s state of health improved, but most importantly he was recovering emotionally. Despite everything he had been through, Timmy was again a happy dog and radiated positive energy.

Almost everything in his life finally fell into place.

Happy ending

After several weeks spent with his foster mother, Timmy finally received the happiest news. It officially became ” foster fail.”

“After three weeks of getting it, I couldn’t imagine at that point getting it back to its place and being adopted by someone else,”Alison said. “It’s like,” Well, that makes sense. This works.”.”

On the day of adoption, Alison decided to visit the place where it all started. When I brought Timmy to Animal Haven headquarters, the staff was over the moon to see him again.

They were happy, but also proud of what this dog has turned into, and they know the state it was in not so long ago.

In the last Facebook post about Timmy, they thanked all those who contributed in any way to these special moments… Finally, they ended this intimate story with words that bring tears of joy to the eyes.

“Working in Animal Rescue is often difficult, but it is unimaginably rewarding,”they wrote. “When animals like Timmy come through our doors, it can make you lose faith in the world. But happy endings like this make everything worthwhile.”
